In the summer 2012, inspections of the reactor vessels of Doel 3 and Tihange 2 nuclear power stations yielded findings that require further analysis. The reactors will stay out of service until final results are in.

When the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan in March 2011, the Fukushima nuclear power plant suffered serious damage. Following these events, Europe decided to submit all nuclear power plants to stress tests.

Within the framework of the life time extension of the nuclear power stations Doel 1 & 2 and Tihange 1, ENGIE Electrabel has elaborated an action plan that sets out the investments and measures needed to extend the operating life of the power plants by ten years, called Long Term Operation (LTO).
