Right from the start, it was decided not to make future consumers pay the price for managing spent nuclear fuel (for instance the cost of decommissioning nuclear power stations), but rather today's consumers, since they are the ones benefiting from the electricity generated by the reactors currently in operation. This cost is built into the price per kilowatt-hour.
In Belgium, the law of 11 April 2003 governs the creation of provisions for managing spent fuel.
